    BACKGROUND

    Our customer, a large wealth management firm, functions with a data ecosystem and business challenge of massive complexity. Its 15,000+ financial advisors have to choose from millions of products to find which ones are right for each of the company's 3MM+ customers — all with different histories and preferences, and all expecting the right recommendations at the right time to match their specific objectives.

    Many companies face this situation today, whether they're working through a large number of agents in a complex environment, making online recommendations, trying to provide location-based offers to consumers, or providing specific treatments and offers during a customer service or collections call.

    Opera Solutions did what many in the industry thought was impossible — we created the advanced analytic platform that could match and serve up individualized recommendations to each customer, based on market and situational changes during the day. But, given the computational intensity involved, we could only do this once a day. We wanted something that could react to up-to-the-minute market changes and reduce the time-to-recommendation without sacrificing the quality of that recommendation.

    ACTION

    To move everything closer to real-time, we added
    SAP HANA's in-memory database capabilities to our Signal Hub technologies. By collapsing the multiple servers and staging into a single platform, HANA was able to process all the relevant data and algorithms to deliver near real-time event processing.

    The processing has shrunk from hours to seconds — now allowing us to generate advice that keeps customers' portfolios more current with the movement of markets and securities, and the flow of analysts' recommendations.


    IMPACT

    This new capacity now opens the possibility to generate customer-specific recommendations many times per day, or on demand.

    For many types of highly complex situations with many customers and many potential actions to recommend, we can present up-to-the-minute advice, all generated with reduced complexity and lower cost.
